Spartanburg School District 3

ATLAS Academic Gifted Programs Elementary School

Nominations are now being accepted for the Spartanburg School District 3 ATLAS Academic Gifted Programs for next school year, 2017-18. Students currently in grades 3-5 may be nominated by parents, teachers, school staff, or self-nominated.   There is no need to nominate 2nd graders. All 2nd grade students are screened for acceptance into the program. Nomination Forms are available in the main office. Nomination forms are due by October 27, 2017.  Music and Art nominations will be accepted in the spring.

What services are provided?

Academic gifted students are those demonstrating high performance ability or potential in academics and therefore require an educational program beyond that normally provided by the general school program in order to achieve their potential.  (State Regulation 43-220).

Grades 3 – 5:  A pullout class for 2 – 3 hours per week

How do students qualify?

The qualification process is based on state procedures and criteria of exceptional scores on reading or math national achievements tests, reasoning tests, and grade point average.

What happens after students are nominated?

Previous scores are reviewed.  Some students will meet eligibility criteria for placement without further assessment; others, whose screening suggests they are potential qualifiers, will take additional testing between November and March.  Parents of students who are nominated will receive further notification of the schedule and results of the testing procedures.
